The New Year is often a time of reflection; an opportunity to look back on the previous year and take stock. It's a chance to celebrate those things that went well, reflect on what didn't, and make an action plan for the year ahead! What do you want to achieve this year? Check out our top tips for staying on track in 2022.
WIN THE DAY
All we really have is today. The past is in the rear-view and the future is yet to come. All your power is in the present moment. If we win each day, win each month, win each year, our progress compounds over time to help us achieve our goals, and become the best versions of ourselves!
Write a power list. This can be a great tool to keep you on track each day. What you need to do is write down 3 critical things you want to complete that day. They can be anything from making that important call to a potential client, getting a workout in, or eating healthy.
Your power list can’t include anything that you’re already doing as a habit. The idea is to be pushing yourself outside your comfort zone every day to help you grow, and achieve what you set out to do. So once your daily workout, or healthy eating becomes a daily habit, you can cross that off your list and add something new to your list!
Imagine what you could achieve by the end of 2022 if you kept up this practice!
SET CLEAR GOALS
The New Year is often a time when we set goals for ourselves, but how often do you achieve them? There are a number of reasons why we often fall short of our goals; they’re either not big enough - your goals should encourage you to up your game, to push your limits, and develop as a person - or you haven’t giving yourself the metrics to measure them.
Most will have heard that your goals should be SMART; Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. This helps you set specific goals, that eliminates any vagueness and guesswork. Make sure you are clear on the steps you need to take.
Remember, your goals are unique to you. Don’t fall into the trap of setting goals that are based on someone else's idea of success, or what you see someone showing off on Instagram. The most important thing is to know WHY you are setting that goal. Are you doing it for the right reasons? Will it help you live the life that you desire?
PRIORITISE YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING
If you don’t look after number one, you won’t be in shape to give the world your best! We can all work every hour under the sun, but will this produce great work? And how long will you last before you burn out?
Make a habit of prioritising time each day for you. Something that gives you joy, calms your mind, and gives you a sense of achievement. This is particularly powerful in the morning! Before starting anything on your works to-do list, do something for yourself, such as a quick workout, a spot of yoga, or a breathing practice. Even just 10 minutes can do wonders!
Not only will you get the endorphins flowing and your mind and body engaged, you will have put yourself first, and gained a sense of achievement before you’ve even reached your desk!
Remember to take regular breaks throughout the day. You may think that by sitting at your desk all day you’re getting more done, but you may be kidding yourself. Studies have shown getting up from your desk once an hour perform better than those who don’t. Taking a break allows us to come back to the job at hand with renewed energy and sense of purpose.
